Exploring the Underwear Factory

Yesterday I ventured down Middle Main to investigate the old vacant Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory building with Lindsay Duvall and Steven Montera. Previously, I have had the opportunity to check out the site around the building; the space where kids play soccer and the area which is the potential gardening area, and the soon to be rain garden. But I was never able to explore the interior of the building.

We began our sojourn in the basement of the building, although we were…

Meet the newest Middle Mainiac - Lindsay Duvall

I am thrilled to be the new Community Development Coordinator with Hudson River Housing!  My first week on the job has been a whirlwind of meeting HRH staff, attending events, visiting project sites, and walking the streets of Middle Main.  I am excited to be a part of this vibrant community and to meet more residents and business-owners at some of the upcoming neighborhood events.

I am new to the Hudson Valley, moving here from Portland, Oregon just a couple months ago. …

Personally I enjoy planning my meals for the week and rely heavily on certain foods that I incorporate into recipes in diverse ways. I usually…

Poem about Poughkeepsie: deflating or really uplifting?

In celebration of the grand opening of the new neighborhood art center, Art Centro, I went on the look for other avenues of artistic creation and expression in this vibrant river city stalled in the crossroads between a centrally located prosperous manufacturing era and a sprawling suburban landscape beyond its confines. In every quarter I notice a distinct artistic tone, whether in the Victorian-era homes lining the streets of the south side or the ornamented string of Renaissance Revival…

Art Centro Grand Opening

The morning of Saturday, September 28th, I woke up to a brisk morning that was layered with a dripping mist and hazy clouds that blocked the sun and covered the sky. From the looks of it, the day was not promising. As the hours passed, the cool clouds gave way to a bright blue sky and the day turned into one of the nicest I believe we shall experience this…
