2014 - what a year it has been! In brief:
In December we were awarded $1,350,000 in funding through the NYS Consolidated Funding Application. This brings our total committed funds to 64% of the total needed to rehabilitate the building. This announcement followed close on the…Continue
I want to share these two thought-provoking articles on such an important topic. As they both point out, we can all choose a role to play, for better or for worse.
If that sounds good to you then I've got your attention and can remind you of the Middle Main Walking Club setting off tomorrow at 12:15 from the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center at 317 Main St. It looks like cool, partly cloud, dry fall weather tomorrow- perfect conditions for a mid-day invigorating walk that will leave you feeling great and full of energy for the rest of the day!
I encourage you to take part if you can for several…Continue

When I read this article in the luxury-market magazine Departures, I couldn't help but think about how easily you could swap Houston for Middle Main. There are lots of parallels here - a city seen as less than a destination, neighborhoods filled with diverse cultures, and of course, an authentic ethnic food scene. The world-renowned chefs profiled in this article talk about drawing inspiration from the hole-in-the-wall joints in Houston's back-alley neighborhoods, and learning new…Continue

The Middle Main Walking Club is a hit so far! People from as far away as NYC have taken part in our first walks (thanks Desiree!), and we've got a great contingent of people hitting the streets each Tuesday and Thursday. Scenic Hudson, Senator Gipson's office, Dutchess County Planning, and several other groups…Continue

GOOD (aka the social network for social good) is sponsoring a new initiative this weekend: NeighborDay.
According to GOOD, "It’s crazy how few of us know our neighbors: their names, their phone numbers, what they’re about. The explosion of online "social" networking has only made it easier to avoid face-to-face contact in the real world. What might we be missing? Collaborators, friends, emergency contacts, sugar? What does this mean for society? As Harvey Milk said,…

And did we mention that Chef Francisco Migoya was named one of the Best Pastry Chefs of 2013 by the Huffington Post? Um, yeah. This one is a can't miss. They have just launched open…Continue

We've been busy over the past few weeks prepping for and hosting our community branding consultants from North Star, who are with us until Friday. (Cutting my hand with a kitchen knife and getting eight stitches, which makes typing close to impossible, doesn't help, so please excuse any typos!) We've been touring all around Poughkeepsie, and of course, Middle Main, and talking to as many people as possible to give our consultants a full picture of Middle Main. If…Continue
