Doing the Middle Main Dance

I just found this from the Institute for Comprehensive Community Development. See the full article and a link to the original below.

It reminded of what we're trying to do here with Middle Main. We've been out in Poughkeepsie for almost two years now, doing the neighborhood revitalization dance. We've definitely gotten people to join in, and we just had a very successful inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting at Governor Clinton House, that brought together many different parts of…

Family Clay Day is a monthly hit at Clay Works

Barrett Art Center, on the Clinton to Cherry block of Main Street, was featured in last weekend's Dutchess County Focus for their monthly Family Clay Day. This is a great, inexpensive, family-friendly event in Middle Main.

Poughkeepsie Journal: Work force growing, but jobs remain stagnant in region

I saw this in yesterday's paper and wanted to share it with everyone. This confirms what we've seen in market research: the Hudson Valley is one of the few areas in the state where population, as well as the work force, is growing along with the job market, causing a crunch in the job market.

This makes local economic development projects like Middle Main all the more important, by creating jobs and economic opportunities right in the heart of Dutchess County.…

Middle Main is moving ahead!

Since we began meeting in June of this year, things have really picked up for Middle Main Revitalization. After the inevitable meetings where anything and everything was on the table, we started to come together around a few big ideas. We’re working to strengthen existing businesses and encourage new ones to form. We also want to give residents more control and a sense of ownership of what goes on in their neighborhood. In addition to working in the neighborhood itself, we plan to publicize the… Continue

Staying Positive: What are Middle Main’s Assets?

Too often, when we want to make changes in our neighborhood, we look at what's negative and ask how we can fix it. I want to suggest a different approach: focus on what's good about the neighborhood, and how to use that to change things.

As you're walking, biking, taking the bus, or driving down Middle Main, what do you see? Boarded-up buildings? Empty parking lots? Run-down storefronts? Underused buildings? Few places to buy groceries? You might think that the neighborhood… Continue
