Wow! It has been quite a busy couple of weeks here lately in Middle Main. We are halfway through our two week long Dia de los Muertos Celebration and I could not be more pleased with the turnout at all the events. Yesterday was the Grand Celebration and it was a huge success, a large part of that due to the tremendous community members, business owners and organizations leaders who assisted the Middle Main team in organizing the event. The arts and crafts were fun, the music and performances were stellar and the food was delicious! I want to thank everyone who came out to the event and for those who had helped. This was my first big event as a part of the Middle Main team and it was a great experience seeing how the collective pride of a community could produce such a wonderful celebration.
We still have two more great events, two movie nights taking place at the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center on November 6th and 7th. The November 6th movie is A Toda Maquina and the November 7th Movie is The Book of Life, both are starting at 6pm. Come out for a fun movie adventure!
While I may be tired from the Grand Celebration we just had on November 1st, there is no rest when it comes to community building and engagement! The next event on my calendar is the first Community Conversations; taking place November 11th from 5:30-7:00pm at the Millerton Elementary School Auditorium at 5833 South Elm Ave. Community Conversations is being facilitated by HRH as part of our Northeastern Dutchess Initiative. As the NEDI AmeriCorps VISTA in Millerton, I have been meeting great community members/leaders and business owners. I love seeing the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie but it’s refreshing to get to see the hills and farmland in the Northeastern section of Duthcess County. If you live in that area feel free to join NEDI at our Community Conversations. We will have light refreshments to celebrate the harvest season and bring a non-perishable food item that we will donate to the Millerton Food Pantry!
Again, if you see me on the street, please feel free to stop me and say hi! Or you can send me an email at email@example.com. Always looking for restaurant recommendations too!
