POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 5, 2014) – The Middle Main Initiative is kicking off this spring with several beautification efforts in the City of Poughkeepsie. Mark your calendar with all the events happening this month, starting with a Community Garden Meeting Tuesday, May 6th, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at 517 Main St. Next is ‘Make Poughkeepsie Shine Day’ on Saturday, May 10th, featuring a Middle Main Clean-Up from 9:00am to 11:00am meeting at Art Centro, 485 Main St. Directly following the Clean-Up is another Community Garden Meeting taking place from 11:00am to 12:00pm at 517 Main St. This is the community’s chance to make Poughkeepsie shine!
The Community Garden Meetings are open to anyone and everyone who wants to help plan a new community garden for the neighborhood. The Middle Main Committee will have an information tent setup at the site of the future garden, 517 Main Street, and will discuss the garden plans and form a committee to turn the plans into a reality later this spring. This is one of several new urban gardening projects sprouting in the City of Poughkeepsie this spring. Those who are interested, but unable to stay for the meeting can provide their contact information to stay involved in the planning process. The garden site is included in the Middle Main Clean-up, bringing community members together to beautify the area in many ways. ‘Make Poughkeepsie Shine Day’ is a city-wide event focused on beautifying public areas, promoting a clean city, discouraging litter, and improving the quality of life for residents and businesses. Local residents, business owners and employees, students and seniors, and all who are concerned about the state of the neighborhood are encouraged to join in this spring cleanup.
The Middle Main Initiative is a program of Hudson River Housing.
