The redevelopment of the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory is the anchor project in Hudson River Housing's work to revitalize the Middle Main Street corridor. We are renovating this three story, 22,000 square foot building as mixed-use, with two thirds consisting of apartments, and one third planned as a commercial community hub. Our vision is to bring the rich bounty of arts and food in the Hudson Valley into the city, and use it as an educational tool and community connector. We've made amazing strides over the past year, securing anchor tenants and formalizing our plans. We're scheduled to open in early 2017, and we want you to be part of it!
Here's what's happening:
Poughkeepsie Open Kitchen (POK) - a shared-use commercial kitchen located in the heart of Poughkeepsie. This space is available for rent on an hourly or daily basis for food entrepreneurs, i.e. retail or wholesale operations, caterers, food truck operators, food educators, and chefs seeking space for pop-up restaurants. This space will also serve as a training center for food related businesses.
North River Roasters & Coffee House - This space will serve as a place for the community to connect through coffee. Poughkeepsie's coffee roaster, North River Roasters, serves quality coffee that is sourced mindfully from farms that provide fair wages and use sustainable farming methods. In partnership with Hudson River Housing they are advancing revitalization efforts in Poughkeepsie by creating jobs for local formerly homeless and youth.
Spark Media Project / Mill Street Loft - Two of the Hudson Valley's leading arts organizations, Mill Street Loft and Spark Media Project will be merging and will utilize space in the factory. With combined missions of fostering self-expression and personal development through the arts, the merging of these two organizations is a natural fit. Hooray for youth arts programming!
Artist/Printmaking Studios - Building on the vibrancy of the existing local arts and maker community, flexible studio spaces will be available for artists and artisans of all backgrounds on a monthly basis. Studio floor will include display spaces and a print making studio.
Fifteen Loft Apartments - A variety of studios and one bedroom apartments for individuals and families to work and live. Fill out one of our applications HERE!
We are capitalizing on this building's history as an innovative center of industry, and bringing it back to life as an dynamic and inclusive community space and great place to live. This project is ripe with opportunity for those seeking a forward-thinking, innovative space to collaborate, build community, and achieve their #poughtential!
